The Fuku Box:
Lunar New Year

A Lunar New Year collaboration with Odré, a local patisserie

Inspired by Chinese and Japanese cultures in welcoming the new year, the concept was designed to aim for an artful balance between heritage and modernity. Together, we created our version of mini Kagami Mochi and Orange Jelly Mousse.

Kagami mochi means mirror rice cake. It is made at the end of the year and remains on display until Kagami Biraki Day, which is a traditional Japanese ceremony to break the ornamental mochi and eat it for good health and fortune for the New Year.

In Chinese culture, oranges and tangerines are auspicious symbols of a better year ahead. During the celebrations, tangerines and oranges are widely displayed as house decorations and exchanged as gifts. The bright color of the fruits symbolizes gold, and thus the fruits are associated with bringing good luck and wealth.
